Mindjoy AI Hackathons

In my time as Community Lead at Mindjoy, an innovative EdTech startup dedicated to revolutionizing education with cutting-edge technology and progressive pedagogy, I spearheaded the operations of our groundbreaking AI Hackathons.

These events, held before the release of ChatGPT, were designed to immerse learners in a stimulating environment where they could safely and creatively engage with Artificial Intelligence. The project's central challenge, "Build an AI to Hack Your Homework," was not only a playful way to engage learners but also aimed to spark thought-provoking conversations looking at the ethical and philosophical dimensions of future technologies like AI.

As the Operations Manager, my responsibilities were multifaceted and pivotal to the success of these events. I managed the logistics of booking schools, building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, meticulously selecting and training facilitators, hosting the sessions, and conducting comprehensive reports on each event.

My role was crucial in ensuring that the hackathons ran smoothly and effectively, providing an enriching experience for the participants.

These hackathons were more than just events; they were a core component of Mindjoy's growth strategy at the time and an essential platform for involving learners in critical conversations about the future of learning and technology. We successfully engaged approximately 4,000 learners, taking this unique educational experience to schools across South Africa, the Netherlands, Kenya, and the USA.

Through these initiatives, we not only expanded Mindjoy's reach but also fostered an engaged community of teachers and learners.

Here is a blog article I wrote about this experience.
